The 2017 Acura MDX is a mid-sized luxury SUV that seats up to 6 or 7 people, depending on your trim. The MDX is fitted with a 290 horsepower engine that powers either an all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive drivetrain.

The 2017 model of the Acura MDX has had its exterior redesigned. Also in the works is a new hybrid model that is expected to be released later this year.

The MDX has balanced ride and handling and excellent fuel economy. It comes with many standard driver assistance features that aren’t available as standard with many rivals. On the down side the infotainment system is a little cumbersome and the cargo space is quite small for this class.

Taking a look under the hood the 2017 Acura MDX is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine which is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It’s a potent engine that is able to generate 290 horsepower. Not only is it potent but fuel savvy as well. The MDX has fuel economy estimates of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

The MDX is nicely balanced although some have noted that the vehicle doesn’t always shift gears when you want it to. Otherwise, the MDX feels smaller than it actually is and the steering is easy. It’s available as either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Acura MDX has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. This is the same whether you choose FWD or AWD. It can’t match the towing capacity of a mid-sized SUV such as the Dodge Durango with a towing capacity of 7,400 lbs. but it should suffice for most circumstances.

The Acura MDX has three rows of seats and seating for up to 7 people. In the base trim the second and third rows use bench seats instead of individual seating. The driver and front passenger have seats that are comfortable and supportive. The third row seating is fairly cramped and larger adults may have trouble getting in and out of them.

The interior materials are generally of high quality although not as luxurious as some rivals. Just like the ILX the MDX uses two screens, an 8-inch display screen and a 7-inch touch-screen. A control knob is also included if you prefer using it to the touch-screen.

The base price for the 2017 Acura MDX is $43,950 which is cheaper than many of its rivals. Adding extra upgrades and packages to the MDX can bring up the price pretty quickly.

The Technology Package, for example, will add an extra $4,410 and includes navigation, 10-speaker audio system, GPS-linked climate control, voice recognition, HD Radio, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

The Advanced Package costs an extra $6,040 and includes a stop-start system, leather upholstery, heated second-row captain’s chairs, two USB ports, ventilated front seats, front and rear parking sensors and a 260-degree camera. This is only available if you have already upgraded to the Technology Package.

The 2017 Acura MDX sits in the middle of its class. There’s some tough competition in this luxury SUV arena¬†and if you’re looking for alternatives then check out the 2016 Tesla Model X, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne or the 2017 Audi Q7.
