The 2017 Acura RLX is a large luxury car with seating for up to 5 people. It has very good fuel economy and gets 20 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway. It has one engine choice, a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower.

The RLX has had no major design changes for the 2017 model although it does now include the AcuraWatch driver assistance and advanced safety features which are now standard on all trim levels.

The RLX has excellent rear seating room but lower than average cargo space. The interior is fairly bland and the performance has been described by reviewers as being uninspiring. We’ll have a look at more of the important details below.

Performance

The 2017 Acura RLX comes as front-wheel drive only and is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine that delivers 310 horsepower. The amount of horsepower is around average for this class and is adequate for most driving situations. Fuel economy is better than average for the class and the RLX gets 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

The RLX is available in a hybrid version that adds 3 electric engines. Total power of all the engines combined is 377 horsepower. The electric engines make the car more fuel efficient and the hybrid version gets 29 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

The Acura RLX scores lower on performance than other luxury cars. Handling is balanced but unimpressive and it can’t match the sportiness of other luxury cars such as the Audi A7 or the Mercedes-Benx CLS.

“The RLX is relatively nimble and wields enough horsepower to handle everyday tasks with ease. Although it’s dynamically competent, others in the segment offer a more engaging driving experience and a wider selection of powertrains.” – Edmunds.

Interior

The 2017 Acura RLX has a decent interior but it isn’t spectacular like some other luxury cars in this class. The touch-screen works well although there aren’t any physical buttons you can use as an alternative.

There’s plenty of legroom in the rear seats but limited headroom for taller passengers. The driver’s and front passenger’s seat is comfortable but lacks side support. In the trunk the RLX has 14.9 cu.ft. of space which is below average for this class.

Price

The base price of the 2017 Acura RLX starts at $54,450 and this is fairly normal for the large luxury car class. There is only one trim level and one available engine, the 3.5-liter V6, unless you upgrade to the hybrid vehicle for an extra $5,500.

Alternatives

The 2017 Acura RLX sits in the middle of the pack for large luxury cars and has a starting price around the same price as the 2016 Cadillac CT6. Other options include the more expensive 2016 Tesla Model S or the 2017 Audi A7.
