The 2017 Audi A5 is a small luxury car that has seating for 4 people and comes with comfortable and roomy front seats. The interior looks well designed and premium materials are used. The A5 is all-wheel drive and the base engine delivers 220 horsepower.

There have been no major changes for the 2017 model year. The base engine gets 23/32 mpg for city/hwy driving which is about average for the luxury small car class. The interior has not been updated for this year and the A5 does lack some of the cutting-edge technology used in other luxury cars.

The 2017 Audi A5 has a fairly high base price of $41,200 for the coupe version. The Cabriolet, or convertible, will cost you at least $48,600. For comparison the BMW 2-Series has a starting price of $32,850, almost $10,000 cheaper, and the 2016 Lexus IS starts at $37,325.

Performance

Performance for the Audi A5 is average for its class. The baseline turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0 liter engine that makes 220 horspower does have enough power for most occasions but it’s still not as powerful as many rivals. The road grip is excellent due to the A5 coming with all-wheel drive.

The Audi A5 comes with a 6-speed manual transmission that can be swapped with an 8-speed automatic. It gets 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. It’s not bad fuel economy but there are many rivals who do better.

For those who need a little more speed Audi offer a high performance model called the S5. This model comes wih a 3.0 liter V6 engine that delivers 333 horsepower. The S5 is paired up with a 7-speed automatic transmission and has a top speed of 155 mph. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just under 5 seconds.

The interior of the 2017 A5 looks elegant and well-designed. It hasn’t been updated since the inception of the A5 almost a decade ago so if you like to stick to what works than you’ll appreciate the A5. Soft materials are used throughout and the seats come with leather upholstery as standard.

In regard to tech features the A5 is showing its age. Bluetooth does come as standard but the A5 still lacks a USB port. This means you won’t be able to charge your phone unless you have a phone that uses an iPod cable. The Audi A5 also comes with a 10-speaker audio system and infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display.

Price

The 2017 Audi A5 is one of the more expensive small luxury cars on the market with a starting price of $41,200. If you want the upgraded V6 engine that comes with the S5 than you’ll be paying a price tag of $53,100. The Cabriolet version of the S5 starts at $61,100. The comfort package which includes push-button start and headed front seats will cost an extra $900.

There are plenty of alternatives to the 2017 Audi A5 in the small luxury car market. Some of the more notable luxury cars are the 2017 Audi A4 with lower starting price, the 2016 BMW 4-Series and the electric 2016 BMW i3.
