2017 Chevrolet Sonic ReviewThe 2017 Chevrolet Sonic is a subcompact car with a starting price of $15,145 which is around the same price as last year’s model. It’s available in a sedan and hatchback version with three trims, the LS, LT and the Premier.

Chevrolet have put safety at the forefront with 10 airbags as standard as well as a high-strength steel safety cage to keep all of the occupants safe in the event of a crash. Standard rear vision camera also comes as standard on all trims with a forward collision alert, lane departure warning and rear park assist available as added extras.

The Chevrolet Sonic comes with a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine that can be upgraded to a turbocharged engine with 138 hp. It uses a front-wheel drive drivetrain with seating for up to 5 passengers. The turbo engine gives this little car plenty of power and it handles well on the road. There have been no major changes from the previous year.

As mentioned earlier the 2017 Sonic comes with two engine choices, the 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine and the turbocharged 1.4 liter 4-cylinder engine. The turbo engine has better fuel economy and comes as standard for the LT and Premier trim. Fuel economy for the 1.8 liter engine is 25 mpg city and 33 mpg hwy. The turbo 1.4 liter engine is a little better with an estimate of 28 mpg in the city.

Hill start assist is standard on all trims but the kind of transmission will depend on the trim. 5-speed manual is standard on the LS. This is upgraded to a 6-speed manual for the LT with the turbo engine. The Premier uses a 6-speed automatic. All trims can be used with either auto or manual transmissions. The choice of transmission won’t effect fuel economy all that much.

Otherwise there’s enough room for 4 adults or 5 people with children in the back. All versions of the Sonic look nice but only the Premier trim comes with a rear spoiler and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
