The 2017 FIAT 124 Spider is a sports car with a price tag of between $24,995 and $28,195 and performs very well considing this is a brand new model for this year. The Spider has seating for 2 people and comes as rear-wheel drive. It has athletic handling and a maximum of 164 horsepower.

The 124 Spider has a folding top which can be be brought to its open or closed position quickly and easily. The seats are supportive although a little cramped for larger adults. The fuel economy is good although the engines don’t offer as much grunt as some other sports cars.

“Despite their similar underpinnings a rich day spent blissfully baking in the Spider’s cabin revealed a personality distinct from the Miata’s. For some drivers the utterly undiluted handling and sharp style of Mazda’s roadster make it the superior choice. But for others the slightly softer, light-hearted spirit of the Fiat better align with their top-down fantasies. In the world of roadsters emotion trumps all. The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider hits the right emotional notes with just enough rationality to justify the fun.” – Kelley Blue Book.

The FIAT 124 Spider comes with a 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 160 horsepower. The engine feels athletic but can’t match the output of other sports cars such as the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro.

The transmission is a 6-speed manual with the option of upgrading to a 6-speed automatic. Both perform admirably although there is a little bit of turbo lag with the manual transmission. Upgrading to the automatic transmission costs an extra $1,300.

Fuel economy with the 124 Spider is pretty good and it manages 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all trims and the Spider feels refined on the road. There is a bit of body roll when taking corners at speed but the Abarth trim mitigates this by using firmer suspension.
