2016 Ford C-MAX Energi
The 2016 Ford C-MAX Energi is a Ford Wagon that seats five people and comes with a hybrid engine that gets 40 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. It has a large interior space for comfortable travel and agile handling for a large vehicle.
The Ford C-MAX has a quiet cabin and comes with the new SYNC 3 infotainment system which Ford are installing on most of their 2016 models. While the C-MAX is a popular option for people movers it faces stiff competition in the form of the 2016 Subaru outback, Golf SportWagen and the Toyota Prius V.
The 2016 Ford C-MAX Energi has a battery for the electric engine which unfortunatly limits cargo space quite a lot. When in electric mode it also has a reduced speed and range. While the gas mileage is quite good on the C-MAX it’s still significantly lower than other hybrid wagons.
The Ford C-MAX is an electric/gasoline hybrid that can be charged from an electric outlet and run from its electric motor. This vastly improves fuel economy and allows it to run like a pure electric vehicle with the option of switching to gasoline for the extra range.
The gas engine is pretty quick with nice acceleration. This slows down when using the electric engine which hurts performance. Maximum speed for the electric engine is 85 mph and it has a range of 19 miles. Using the gasoline engine as well you’ll have a fuel economy of 40 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. The estimated MPGe for the electric engine is 95/81 for city/hwy, although range is limited.
The electric motor gets 118 hp which isn’t so great and you’ll find it difficult overtaking at highway speeds. The electric motor takes about 2 1/2 hours to recharge. The combine power of both engines is 188 hp and it also comes with a 4-cylinder 2.0 liter engine.
The C-MAX is fairly nimble on the road but suffers a little due to the heavy battery pack. The C-MAX Hybrid doesn’t have this problem and the Hybrid version is a little more agile on the road. Aside from that the braking is powerful, the steering is sharp and the interior has minimal noise when on the road.
As mentioned the interior cabin is very quiet when on the road. It comes with dual zone electronic temperature control as well as rear seat heat ducts as standard. Remote keyless entry, rear window defroster, leather trimmed seats and a 10-way adjustable driver seat also comes as standard. The Active Park Assist, 9-speaker audio system and navigation are optional extras.
The interior cabin looks attractive and there’s plenty of space for lots of legroom and headroom. The only downside is the large battery pack in the cargo area that will limit your cargo space. Rear seats can split and fold forward for additional cargo room. The leather seats as standard are a nice addition, as is the new SYNC 3 infotainment system which operates quicker than previous infotainment versions.
The 2016 Ford C-MAX Energi has a starting price of $31,770 with added costs for additional features such as Active Park Assist and the upgraded entertainment system.
There are a number of good alternatives to the 2016 Ford C-MAX Energi including the 2016 Subaru Outback, Audi Allroad and the cheaper 2016 Ford C-MAX Hybrid.
