2017 Mini Cooper

The 2017 MINI Cooper is a trendy subcompact car that ranks fairly well against rivals in its class. It features a trio of zippy turbocharged engines that outperform many other subcompact cars.

The 2017 MINI Cooper comes equipped with an upscale interior cabin design and athletic sports-car handling. The turbocharged engines deliver anywhere from 134 to 228 horsepower depending on your options. On the downside the Cooper has smaller rear-seat space and cargo space then some rivals and the suspension is a little stiff.

“What We Like: Great styling; sporty driving dynamics; enjoyable powerplants; surprisingly practical. What We Don’t: Gets pricey with options; looks a lot like last year’s model.” – Autotrader.

Performance

The top engine is also 4-cylinders and turbocharged but delivers 228 horsepower. A 6-speed manual transmission comes as standard with a 6-speed automatic available as an optional upgrade.

The base engine on the Cooper gets 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The bigger engines get 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The MINI Cooper comes as front-wheel drive with no options for upgrading to all-wheel drive.

Interior

The MINI Coopers, given their name aren’t known for their spacious interiors. The 2017 model will seat either 4 or 5 people. With the 2-door trim having seating for 4 people and the 4-door trim seating for 5 people. Having said that the rear seats are quite cramped on both trims and the rear seats are best suited to children. The front seats on both trims are comfortable and roomy enough for most adults.

The MINI Cooper has one of the nicer interior layouts in the class. Leatherette seating is standard and most of the surfaces are soft to the touch. Most of the interior styling can be customized to your liking.
