The Altima has had no major changes for the 2017 season. The 2016 model had already been redesigned and the base price remains the same. The Altima has a low base cost, high safety ratings and very good fuel economy.

The 2017 Altima is ranked around the middle of the mid-sized car class. The interior is comfortable and quiet and the steering has been improved. the interior trim is unappealing to some and the base model has limited features but all-in-all it’s fair value for money.


The Altima is a four door sedan that comes with a 179 hp, 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder engine on the base model. Fuel economy is excellent and the base model has an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

The other engine on the higher end models, the 3.5 SR and the 3.5 SL, is the 3.5 liter V6 engine with 270 horsepower. This model comes at a starting price of $27,990 and has a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

The 2017 Altima doesn’t use fixed gears but comes with a Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT. Nissan claim that this allows for the motor to operate more efficiently and that the CVT responds with the right rpms based on engine speed.

The interior of the 2017 Altima is designed with soft-touch materials. The front seats are surprisingly comfortable and the 7-inch touch screen with infotainment system puts all of the controls at your fingertips.
The base model comes the Bluetooth, Advanced Drive-Assist and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Leather seats are available on the higher trims, as are the Bose Premium Audio System and 4-way power adjustable seats. The base model lacks some additional safety features but they are available on the higher models. These include Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and the Nissan Intelligent Key with Remote Engine Start and Stop System. The models with the bigger engine come with paddle shifters and the top trim includes a power sliding moonroof.


The 2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 has a fairly low base price of $22,500. The SR comes with 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and paddle shifters. It has a starting price of $24,470. Leather seats and 4-way power adjustable front passenger seats are available on the 2.5 SL which has a starting price of $28,570. The bigger engine is available on the 3.5 SR and 3.5 SL. The first of these has a MSRP of $27,990 and the 3.5 SL, which comes witha power sliding moonroof has a starting MSRP of $32,690.


The 2017 Nissan Altima has great fuel economy but other mid-sized cars outscore it in other areas. Some other options to consider are the 2017 Toyota Camry, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2017 Hyundai Sonata.
