2016 Porsche Cayman
The 2016 Porsche Cayman is a top ranked sports car that many reviewers say is thrilling to ride. It seats 2 people, has a rear-wheel drive drivetrain and an engine capacity up to 385 horsepower. The Cayman is athletic on the road with sharp steering and supportive seats to keep you comfortable for longer drives.
The 2016 model of the Cayman features a new trim, the GT4, which comes with a slightly more powerful engine. In all there are 5 Cayman models to choose from including the Cayman, Cayman Black Edition, Cayman S, Cayman GTS and the Cayman GT4. The base model has a starting price of $52,600 and the newest trim, the GT4, comes in at around $84,000.
While the 2016 Cayman does rank very well as a luxury sports car it has been criticised for having poor visibility and slow acceleration for the base model. The higher trims may be better suited for those who are looking for a powerful sports car.
While not as fast as the 911 the Cayman still has plenty of power. The base model uses a 2.7 liter 6-cylinder engine that makes 275 horsepower. It has a top speed of 165 mph and acceleration of 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Fuel consumption for the base model is 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
For those who have the need for some extra speed the Cayman GTS comes with a 3.4 liter 6-cylinder engine that delivers 340 horsepower. It has a top speed of 177 mph and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The new trim for 2016, the GT4, uses a slightly more powerful 3.8 liter 6-cylinder engine that makes 385 horsepower. It has a top speed of 183 mph and can reach 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds. While not as fast as the lineup of 911 engines it still has plenty of speed. As Edmund’s point out:
“True, Porsche still reserves its most powerful flat-6 engines for the 911, but it’s almost churlish to complain now that the 385-horsepower GT4 model is available. No matter the engine you pick, the Cayman loves to rev and sounds fantastic doing it.”
The Porsche Cayman is designed with the engine positioned in the middle of the car. This leaves both the front and rear of the car free for cargo space. The interior cabin looks sleek and upmarket and the center stack has a classic design with button controls as well as a 7-inch touch screen.
The Cayman has seating for 2 people and comes with partial leather upholstery as standard. Heated seats and heated steering wheel are optional extras.
“We usually don’t consider small, low-slung coupes to be great partners for long-distance drives, but the Porsche Cayman fits that bill and then some.” – AutoTrader
