2016-porsche-macan-reviewThe 2016 Macan is a 5-seater, all-wheel drive SUV with a powerful engine. The Macan is Porsche’s idea of a sports car turned into a SUV. Many reviewers rank the 2016 Macan as the best compact luxury SUV on the market. I would say that it certainly is comparable to the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace or the 2017 BMW X3.

The 2016 Porsche Macan has sports car handling and very powerful engines for quick acceleration and high towing capacity. The inside of the cabin is luxurious and the Macan has a high predicted reliability rating. While the Macan is top ranked it’s also fairly pricey and has low fuel economy.

New for the 2016 model of the Macan is tri-zone climate control as standard as well as a heated steering wheel which is standard on the turbo models. Also available for this year is the surround view camera system.

The base model of the 2016 Macan comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 252 horsepower. It can reach 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds and has a top track speed of 142 mph. If that’s not enough power for you Porsche are offering another 4 models of the Macan, each with progressively more power.

The Macan S is slightly quicker with a 3.0 liter V6 that delivers 340 horsepower. It can reach 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 156 mph. The Macan Turbo has a top speed of 164 mph and an acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. It uses a 3.6 liter V6 engine with 406 lb.-ft. of torque. There is an optional performance package for the Macan to make it go even quicker but it will cost you an extra $10,000 on top of the Macan Turbo.

The Macan is agile and athletic on the road with plenty of grip due to being all-wheel drive. The ride is comfortable and driving feels effortless. While the ride is brilliant it does have lower fuel economy than some others in the class. The standard model gets 20 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. At the top end the Macan Turbo has fuel consumption of 17 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway.

The interior cabin of the Macan is comfortable and luxurious. It comes with user-friendly technology and great build quality. Most of the materials are soft-touch and the seats offer plenty of support and comfort. The Macan has 2-rows of seating. The back row still has plenty of space, even for adults. The BMW X3 and Audi Q5 do have slighlty larger rear passenger areas.

The Turbo has a retail price of $76,000. You’ll need an extra $10,000 for the Performance Package.

The 2016 Porsche Macan is one of the best luxury compact SUVs and rates favorable compared to others in its class. Other good options are the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace, the 2016 BMW X3 and the 2017 Audi Q5.
