2017 Subaru Outback ReviewThe 2017 Subaru Outback has a roomy interior for up to 5 people and a choice of either the 4-cylinder engine that makes 175 horsewpower or the more powerful 6-cylinder engine that makes 256 horsepower. It comes with all-wheel drive as standard.

The 2017 Outback is seen as one of the best wagons that you can buy. It has a very large interior and back seat for the rear passengers. It also has great cargo capacity and drives well on all kinds of terrain. On the down side the standard 4-cylinder engine is underpowered for this class and most people would prefer to upgrade to the larger 6-cylinder engine.

For 2017, Subaru have added a new trim, the Outback Touring and alloy wheels now come as standard. The EyeSight package includes reverse automatic braking and also automatic high beams. The base engine gets 25 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.

Specs

The 2017 Subaru Outback uses a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower as standard. This is enough power for running small errands around the city but certainly lacks power for anything more. The 4-cylinder engine gets 25 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. Most people would opt for the larger 3.6 liter 6-cylinder engine on the higher trims that produces 250 horsepower and gets 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.

There are 6 Outback models to choose from. The two highest trims the 3.6R Limited and the 3.6R Touring use the 6-cylinder engine. Unfortunately they’re almost $9,000 more expensive than the base model so the extra power does come at a cost.

The Outback has plenty of ground clearance standing at 9 inches off the ground. The all-wheel drive also gives it good traction on all kinds of surfaces. The Outback also performs quietly on smoothly on the rood so it really is an all-purpose vehicle.

Interior features of the Subaru Outback include a 4-speaker sound system, USB port, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, 6.2-inch touch screen and infotainment system. Option extras include push button start, moonroof, 12-speaker audio system, blind spot monitoring, automatic pre-collision braking and auto high beams.

The 2017 Subaru Outback comes with a starting price of $25,645 for the base model with the 4-cylinder engine. The upgraded 256 horsepower engine comes as standard on the 3.6R Limited model which has a starting price of $34,995.

Alternatives

The 2017 Subaru Outback is one of the best wagons for sale at the time of this review. The 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen is also very good and is noticably cheaper. The 2016 Toyota Prius V and the 2016 Audi Allroad are also viable alternatives.
